Tech Brief

How ORBIS is Enhancing NDT through AI and Machine Learning.

The US Navy continues to use a radiographic weld inspection technique that has changed little over the past 100 years. In concert with computed and digital radiography, there is significant potential in applying AI to NDT interpretation to support optimizations, from NDT assistance solutions to full NDT AI automation.

ORBIS concluded Phase 2 of this project to develop and deliver an AI Assistant that shows the usability and effectiveness of the AI model with radiographic nondestructive testing (NDT). We compare the consistency between human inspectors and the AI, focusing on the AI’s ability to match standard NDT performance.

The AI demonstrates a 99.5% reliability rate compared to human inspectors

Test & Evaluation Systems

We deliver end-to-end testing solutions through design, implementation, and analysis to validate functionality, ensure compliance, and provide actionable insights that enhance performance and reliability.

Facilities
Orbis operates two advanced design hubs dedicated to Test & Evaluation (T&E) Systems, purpose-built for modern defense integration.
Strategically positioned in Charleston, SC (HQ) and Groton, CT, these sites support rapid prototyping and collaborative testing.
Expertise
Our multidisciplinary teams specialize in mechanical, electro-mechanical, and micro electro-mechanical systems, enabling precision-engineered solutions.
From concept to deployment, we integrate and test next-gen technologies across complex platforms and mission-critical systems.
Upgrades
We modernize legacy infrastructure with cutting-edge instrumentation, extending the lifespan and capability of test environments.
Our data acquisition systems deliver high-resolution performance metrics, ensuring faster cycles and more reliable results.

Rapid Prototyping

Utilizing cutting-edge technologies and materials, we craft detailed prototypes that closely mimic the final product. This approach allows for quick adjustments and improvements, ensuring your design is perfected before full-scale production begins.

Speed
Orbis accelerates product innovation through rapid prototyping cycles that compress timelines and eliminate development bottlenecks.
Our agile approach enables real-time design iteration, taking concepts to physical prototypes in days instead of months.
Precision
Leveraging advanced fabrication tools, digital modeling, and simulation, we create high-fidelity prototypes that closely match the final product in performance and appearance.
We incorporate exact material and dimensional tolerances to ensure each prototype is ready for meaningful design validation.
Adaptability
Our rapid prototyping workflow is built for flexibility, allowing quick refinements based on test results, stakeholder input, or evolving requirements.
We support a wide range of applications, including electronics, mechanical systems, multi-material assemblies, and integrated enclosures.
